The Dreamslide: Small Bike, Big Innovation!

* * * * *

The Dreamslide can best be described as uniquely compact. At around 25lbs (10.8 kg) it is one of the easiest bikes to transport we’ve seen. The handlebars fold down onto the frame where they are held in place with a magnet. Once the Dreamslide is folded into transport mode, the rider can grip the handle that’s built into the frame and wheel it around on it’s back tire. There is no need for a custom bike rack to transport it in a vehicle. In the folded position it can literally be placed in the back seat of a small car.

To ride this bike is a unique experience as well. The APS (Adaptive Pedaling System) allows the rider to maintain a standing position while riding and experience very little up and down movement while pedaling. There is a bit of a learning curve so most riders don’t just hop on and go. The pedal motion seems very foreign the first time out since the downward pedal stoke is slow at the same time the recovery stoke is coming up fast. Add to that the hand grips that spin allowing the bike to rock side to side under the rider and you have a bit of a new experience going on.

The folks at Dreamslide are working on a three speed model but for now, this is a single speed bike. However, the APS is ingenious and produces an impressive range of speed roughly comparable to an internal 3 speed hub. This is not the bike to ride if you’re heading into the mountains for a day a vertical gain but does provide a great solution for those looking for a fun, portable, cruiser.

Looks like a nice, quick, little commuter. Interesting set-up on the pedal's movement, and no worry about 'bike seat butt'!

Great concept. Looks fun, and very portable. Way too expensive at half the price for me.
